Hello to all ECT users.

We admins work hard to keep ECT a safe, easy-to-use, and user-driven space. With that in mind, we’re looking to update the rules for becoming Verified. This is the place to share your ideas on what changes you’d like to see for the verification process.

Right now, one rule is that you have to redo the process every five years. Personally, I think that’s too long and am considering reducing it to every two or three years. A lot can change for a person in just a few years. Since this is a user-driven site, we want your feedback before making any decisions. This thread will stay open for two weeks and close on 3/7/2026.

After that, we’ll review the suggestions and start setting up polls to decide on changes. If something needs to be updated immediately, we might skip the poll and make it an official rule to keep everyone safe.

So, let’s get talking!

EDIT: This topic is also open to staff.

As someone who isn't a big user here, and has only done a few transactions ever... is there a specific problem we're trying to solve by doing more frequent verification? I personally barely liked the idea of sending my ID in the first place, and the idea of having to redo it basically every few years when I feel like doing a transaction here feels like a big turn off to me.

What exactly about who I am suddenly changed in a few years? What does my new home address if I happen to have moved etc have to do with anything here?

Feel free to educate me on this topic btw - but as a very casual user of this site who isn't in the know about any drama or issues it seems a bit overkill for a site I'm purchasing krono/accounts on and might sell something once in a very very blue moon.

I think theres a contingent of people who believe that if a person is sending their personal information into the site more frequently they will be less likely to scam. Or that if we have a scammers information, it will allow for a more likely chance that the person can retrieve what was taken from them. There seem to have been a few cases where this was the case, but largely I dont think it matters.

I personally think that if someone is going to scam someone over EQ items or money, they prob dont care that someone has their personal information. This isnt 1960, noone is showing up at your house to break a kneecap and go to prison for assault because you scammed them. And the Police do not care that someone stole an imaginary item from you.

Im sure there are SOME bad actors who get deterred because they need to send in their info to get verified, but I doubt the majority of them would care.

Thats my understanding, someone else is more than free to step in and correct me.

Also, you do not need to verify in order to transact, there are alot of traders who will deal with non-verified people. I think if youre trying to buy 100kr at a time, you might struggle to find someone, but if youre just spending the occasional $100 here or there, its not a big deal.

Even being away from EQ currently due to freaking work.
I still make time to check in here and read up on things.
The 1 year for seller 2 year for buyer seems fair.
Anytime I refer someone to use this glorious community and they seem worried I say then with your first transaction just get like 5 krono and explain in the DM's back and forth. Legit people understand trust is a two-way street and sting of $50-55 bucks is way easier to avoid kicking a child, where $550 could push someone to kick a child or drown a puppy.

I've never had any bad dealings in the 3-5 years being here I honestly don't remember.

Either way Much appreciation the effort from staff members and keeping this running, and everyone else keeping it a clean and trusted environment.
