There was an announcement made in the MQ discord that a couple of the longterm MQ devs will no longer be updating for live as of the 4/15 patch.

Even though a few parties have already expressed a desire to keep the project running, alot of people are unloading or preparing to unload their wealth.

This could lead to a prime opportunity for people to take advantage of others, so just be as careful as you can be when conducting your deals for the new few weeks.

Just a PSA for those not in the know.

Just for further clarification, it's a little more serious than "a couple of the longterm MQ devs." Brainiac, Knightly, and Dannuic ARE THE MQ DEVS. They supply both RedGuides and MMOBugs, and the source code where 99% or more of your private MQ compiles shared among guilds and private groups come from. They ARE/were MQ.

There are still inferior third-party options out there. Google algorithm promotes an alternative to MQ to the top of the search for some $trange rea$on. But MQ was the gold standard.

There was a running joke among people in the know that MQ kept the lights on at Darkpaw Games. That theory might get put to the test this year.

I was just trying not to drop names as i didnt know what was or was not allowed. The point was more so to warn people of the potential for scams, and not so much the discussion about the future of eq and mq lol.

And yes, if MQ goes down EQ won't last 12 months, but there's too much money our there for MQ to go down. Someone or someone's will pick up the Mantle, we might just have a couple rocky weeks ahead.

1. MQ devs received no financial compensation outside of donations. Not even the companies profiting off their pro bono project (RedGuides and MMOBugs) were paying them for the code. There's not much incentive for anybody resurrecting MQ to release it to the public for free again. Those guys were some old school hackers. They did it on principle! They did it for the lulz!

2. MQ devs have outright stated it wasn't worth the time anymore. MQ and EQ have always represented a coding war. One side is salaried and has a job, the other side has a hobby and passion project. Darkpaw has recently been ramping up their coding war against the MQ devs. By making the project take up too much of their free time, Darkpaw effectively "won". This pyrrhic victory will be ironic if it causes Darkpaw to start to fail fiscally. But it really was a war. And I think the current Darkpaw team would rather shut down the studio and sell the IP than admit they were wrong on this one. Perhaps it's the hill they are willing to die on. But the idea the game is "cleaned up" now is absurd. Any caveman with Google can type Everquest hacks into the search and the first thing that pops up is...another hacking program. And the clueless fools at Darkpaw still don't even recognize the use of third-party like ISBoxer as legitimate because they are tits deep in their own warfare mentality.

3. MQ devs have stated they are not going to work with any transition teams. Meaning all that know-how and expertise is effectively lost. And that our mysterious "someone" will have to reverse engineer it from scrap. And there's no reason why such a person should/would release their version into the public domain for free next time for RedGuides and MMOBugs to continue to profit off of. RedGuides has already seen the writing on the wall. They are trying (and failing) to hype their sub-base into transitioning into EQEmu or some such garbage. In fact, now that the MQ devs are no longer releasing it for free, the most likely outcome is the next person or team to crack the code will start their own site/company and paywall it. Now that there's no open source for it, there's a greater financial incentive to monopolize the MQ market at this time. But a couple weeks? Or even this year?

This is so much bigger than the THJ fiasco. People just don't realize it yet. Most those THJ players had already quit EQ Live and weren't coming back anyway. The true amount of MQ users was far larger than the playerbase commonly understood it to be. Most raiding guilds were using it. Most boxers were using it. Most farmers. Most power levelers. Even a lot of filthy casuals were using it simply because the increased functionality and power it gave the user turned the game into a new metagame.

This is the end of an age, but like the war between good and evil in the Silmarillion, the war between MQ and EQ will continue in the next age, and for as long as there is an internet connection!

Brother, why are you arguing with me in a thread I already told you wasn't even the point of the post lol.

I don't know who you talk to, but you're prognosis of the situation seems vastly different from mine after speaking with some people.

And when I said there's to much money, I meant there's many people who make 10s of thousands of dollars a month by utilizing MQ. Someone will do what needs to be done. I'm pretty confident.

And for the record. If darkpaw wanted to stop the cheating. All they would need to do is ban the accounts that are flagged as cheating, which is basically every account that's logged in with MQ running. They don't need to change code and make the update process harder. Eventually after wasting enough time a money from re subbing re leveling people will stop.

Just providing further clarification as to why I think your timeline of a couple rocky weeks ahead is impractical, regardless of how many whales that you talk to are peeing their shorts atm. I actually hope it lasts longer. I want to see what the effect on the game and the company is honestly. We haven't seen this happen before. And I'm talking about it because I find the topic interesting, not because I want to disagree with you. There's not much of interest to talk about around here year after year. This is actually big. It's bigger than DK. It's bigger than THJ. And for all our virtue signaling here on EC Tunnel, this IS a black site according to Darkpaw. I don't think it derails the original purpose of your thread either because there's really nothing more that needs to be added to or taken away from your original post. The warning stands. But the details of what's causing it are of professional interest to me, and possibly to others, although for obvious reasons a lot of people are not going to want to be associated with this conversation in the public domain. Now those people have the full details. I'm so sure this shit won't be resolved in a month, I will buy you some fucking ducats if I'm wrong.

I’m just curious as to what made you write this post. The warning seems really unwarranted and had no further information regarding what scam or scams were in the works. ECTunnel is a respectable community that has its few bad apples (just like every community). The only thing you will accomplish is to hurt the legit sellers.

Please provide clarity and further justification to your warning.

He's simply giving a heads-up and is 100% warranted. EQ is about to lose a lot of players/subs. People are definitely going to try to scam before going off into the abyss.

The announcement was made about 2 weeks ago and no scam yet. It’s unwarranted and just makes selling difficult. Unnecessarily puts the community on alert as if it was full of scammers.

Because when people panic they do dumb things. Like unload their entire 54 man box teams, or sell all their characters. We had people selling bulk krono at $9 when the average price was above $12. Alot of people think the sky is failling, and alot of people dont pay attention to various discords where this information would have been posted. Im not going to spell out how this would make it easier for someone to scam, but if you cant think of some ways, idk what to tell you.

I sell on this site, i had gear, characters and krono listed when i made this post. So its not like im shitting on everyone and sitting back and laughing. I made it full well knowing that someone might read it and decide to not trade, but i think it was more important to let people know what was happening and let them make their own decisions. Im sorry you disagree, and im absolutely thrilled there havent been any scams, but who knows what will happn next week when people see that MQ will or wont be updated in a reasonable amount of time. Who knows if that guy that sold all his accts wont want them back.

Im just looking out for the community.

Well, devs stepped forward, we currently have a new test and live build by them for the latest patches. It's not perfect, but it functions. A few odds and ends to clean up.

With that said - Everquestmadesimple, if you're going to save EQ with your copy of MQ - does that mean yours doesn't require any maintenance? Because that's not really how MQ works. We already have a copy of MQ that breaks every patch and requires someone to update it.
