I apologize, I'm thinking about this the wrong way. Discussing or finalizing a deal off-site via email, SMS, Discord, Skype (rip), Whatsapp, Florp, Beeper, Fart, in-game, etc. has never stopped us from attempting to confirm fraud, and in fact it can be beneficial. I even encourage it in our Account Buyer's Guide,

EverQuest Account Buyer's Guide If you're new to buying EverQuest goods, welcome! We're happy to have you. We do catch what we can, so long as it's related to this site.
So yes, we will attempt to stop fraud both here and in our Discord channel. However, the more you discuss on the website, and the more you deal with website-linked users, the more we can protect.
This message has displayed in our discord every few days for years,

We kicked a guy a few years ago who was clearly scamming people and was in our discord channel. If someone's scamming from our discord let me know and I'll give them the boot if I can be convinced with evidence provided.
I could easily be talked into a rule that disallows discord handles, email, phone numbers, etc. in public threads.
As always, caveat emptor.
Off-Site Platforms People Use to Discuss Trades:
Discord
Email
SMS/Text
Skype (RIP)
Whatsapp
Pigeon
In-Game Chat
Florp, Beeper, Fart (and other... less conventional platforms)
If you’re not 100% comfortable moving forward, either get that deal locked down on EC Tunnel or just walk away. Don’t risk it.
Important:
Admins can only investigate and take action if the person involved in the scam is tied to EC Tunnel - for example, they have a verified Discord handle on the official EC Tunnel Discord server or are an EC Tunnel community member.
If the scammer isn’t connected to EC Tunnel in some way, there’s unfortunately less we can do.
1. Don’t Get Played by These Common Scams
If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is; trust your gut! Watch out for these classic moves by scammers:
- Payment kiting: “I’ll pay later, just send it now” don’t fall for it unless you like not having money.
- Disappear after the trade: They vanish once they get what they want. This includes not responding to your messages. Don't get ghosted!

- Claim the deal never happened: Especially if it wasn’t confirmed on EC Tunnel. Nobody here is capable of performing Jedi mind tricks.
- Delete or abandon accounts: They wipe their burner accounts to cover their tracks.
2. Bottom Line on Off-Site Chatting
Discord, email, or whatever else you use to discuss deals isn’t inherently bad. Sometimes it can even help catch scammers.
But the more you do on-site with EC Tunnel users, the safer you are. If someone tied to EC Tunnel tries to scam you off-site, report it to the admins so they can investigate, stop the scammer, and protect others.
3. Already Been Burned? Here’s What To Do:
It happens. It's happened to me. Do you know how many times I've been left holding the bag over some asshole trying to screw me over? I'm here for a reason.
Have you ever heard of the Fitzgerald twins? They didn't get me (because they're losers!) but other people have successfully scammed me. Me!
Here’s your game plan:
- Take screenshots of everything: Discord logs, EC Tunnel threads, payment proof, crypto transaction IDs, phone screenshots, polaroids
- Censor personal info before posting. Do not post account names, passwords, character names, real human names, or any other information that is identifying. This list is not exhaustive.
- File a report on EC Tunnel by sending a message to the administration team with the information that you have. The site owner/administrator is Redbot. Moderators are Teichou, Sic, and ChatWithThisName.
- Reporting helps the admins investigate and keeps the community informed
- Leave negative feedback. What better use is there of the feature if you've been scammed. Don't be afraid to speak up for yourself!
- Open a public dispute thread - this is a valid place to share your experience with the community, discuss with other users, and warn others of a potential ongoing scam. A recent one i s the JuicyKR bitcoin scam that resulted in a ban.

Final Word
Discord and off-site chats aren’t the enemy - scammers, scams, and ignoring scams are. This community has to rely on each other to report bad actors!
If you get scammed, speak up. The admins can’t help if they don’t know.
If a deal gets sketchy, back off or move it to ECTunnel ASAP.
Stay sharp, protect yourself, and keep the community safe.
